Project Rilke emerges from the encounter between a foundational poetic text — Rilke’s First Elegy — and a living landscape shaped by wind, breath, and sound.

At its core lies the meeting point between poetry and electronic music. Rather than illustrating the text, the dance — rooted in IVONA’s physical research — transforms the elegy into physical impulse, vibration, and rhythm, reacting in real time to a live DJ set.

By merging poetic memory with electronic culture, Project Rilke moves beyond traditional reading to offer a shared sensory experience. It opens an immediate, contemporary access point to poetry, making it accessible, physical, and collective.

“If one were to stop and listen to the work of roots, who would be able to sleep?”

In all possible declinations of the word ‘Roots’, it evokes an action that intimately connects two or more elements and invokes multiple meanings: from the rooting in a place, to the relationship between the inside and the outside of oneself, to knowing one’s origins, to nurturing and connecting with Mother Earth.

The performance investigates precisely the dynamic inherent in this word and finds its origin in the need to go deep into things, to know, to wonder, to relate and stop running away from one’s roots. Through the relationship between the two protagonists and archetypes of the story, the two bodies meet in intimate contact and deep listening in order to support each other and grow. They will rely on each other’s arms and perform the most frightening “dance” in the world: the act of loving.

Eliminate the questionable knots.
Give up unfashionable colors.
POP is liked.
POP sells.
POP is good for you.

You are born and they tell you what you can do.
You grow up and they tell you where you have to go.
You die and they will say you could have done more.

In between, you CENSOR YOURSELF.

Because human beings are good
at only one thing:
surviving.

Surviving rules.
Surviving hungry wolves.
Expectations.
Censorship.

Censorship rooted in our blood,
that seems natural.
So everyday that it feels like freedom.

And there we are, comfortable.
Everything is calm.
Everything is clear.
Follow the rules and you are right.
UNQUESTIONABLE.

Until something inside begins to rot.
A crack.
A passage opens toward authenticity and rebellion.

And then it happens.

You fall.
You remain still.
Or you rise.

Or you do the worst thing of all.

You take off your mask.
You are no longer pop.
You are punk.

It is not a revolution.
It is not an idea.

It is simply this:

“to stop censoring yourself
and vomit yourself onto the world.”

Founded in 2021 through the collaboration between Linda Pasquini, Marianna Basso and Daniel Tosseghini, Nanouk developed the first study of The Old Man in 2023, subsequently presenting it at various festivals including Presente Futuro (Palermo), Tanzplattform Bern (Switzerland), Festival Voci dell’Anima (Rimini), and others, receiving several awards and recognitions.In 2023, we worked as choreographers for the Junior Company of Opificio Movimento (Italy) and became part of the “Nuove Traiettorie XL” programme.In 2024, we participated in international festivals such as CicBuny-Burgus Y Nueva York (Spain) and MasDanza (Spain), as well as national festivals including Corto in Danza (Cagliari) and Festival Mirabilia (Cuneo), receiving important recognitions.We won the Critics’ Award at DirectionUnder30 (Reggio Emilia), which led to our inclusion in the programme of Festival Aperto (Reggio Emilia), where we presented the full 40-minute version of The Old Man.In January 2025, we created DIVE, a duet by Marianna Basso and Daniel Tosseghini, presented as its Italian premiere at the Festival Nutida.In 2025–26, DIVE began touring at various national and international festivals, including the Vetrina della giovane danza d’autore of Network Anticorpi XL and CicBuny-Burgus Y Nueva York (Spain). In 2026, we were selected again for PROGETTO CURA for the development of a new creation entitled PUNKLESS.
